About Me
For as long as I can remember, the ocean has made me happy. I grew up on the water; sailing, surfing, diving and adventuring with my family. It was never too cold or too rough, we always found our way to the water. When I was 7 years old my parents bought a yacht in Greece, so we went to live on it and sailed around the Mediterranean sea. My youth full of fun, freedom and exploration formed the base of what Peeks Below is.
Education
After high school I decided to study Media & Culture at Utrecht University. A study that focused on film, television, new media and theatre. I've always had a creative mind and this study turned out to be the perfect combination for my creativity and academic ambitions. I added a minor in Intercultural Communication and a practicum Film.
After I got my bachelor's degree I was ready to leave the Netherlands. In march 2021 I went to Costa Rica for my Divemaster Internship and ended up staying for half a year. The next two years I spent on the beautiful island of Bonaire, working as a divemaster and boat captain. In addition I got my first freediving certifications: AIDA I, II & III.
About My Work
Besides all the water-activities I was always playing with my camera. Capturing the underwater world, to me, is magic. It doesn't matter how rough the surface is; when you go down, there's peace. The more time I spent underwater, the more I learned about the animals, reefs and sustainability. There's so much beauty, there are so many stories: I created Peeks Below to tell these
tales of the ocean.
About The Name
Back home, everyone calls me Pyx. I have had this nickname since I was a few months old. But while traveling I've noticed it was a difficult name to pronounce, written like this. So when I was thinking of names for my company, my sister came up with the international version: Peeks. This ended up working both ways, because I tell stories about the ocean below the surface. Or, give them a 'peek' below.
